BACKYARD/BARNYARD ADVENTURES a nature and science based enrichment program for young children!
Backyard/Barnyard Adventures: Children are natural observers and problem solvers.Through hands on exploration they make discoveries, problem solve, and make meaningful connections.Backyard/Barnyard Adventures encourages children to put their innate curiosity to work.This program allows children to explore a variety of materials and complete related science experiments. Children will also have daily interactions with our resident rabbits, chickens, and goats!
Sessions Backyard Adventures: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons 12:30-2:30 & Tuesday/Thursday mornings 9-12 (staggered pick up option available between 11:30-12 for 1/2 day preschoolers and kindergartners -parent or bus pick up)
Session OneSeptember 11th-November 17th (no class on 9/21, 10/9, 10/27, 11/10)
Rocks, Crystals, Fossils, and More!
Children will explore a variety of rocks (sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic) and how they are formed. They will compare sizes, shapes, colors, textures, weight, and more. Children will complete mining activities and identify types of rocks and quartz minerals found, examine geodes, and grow crystals. Models of geodes, volcanoes, and fossils will be created.
Session Two Magnets, Compasses, Movement, and More! November 20th-January 26th (no class on 11/22, 11/23, 11/24, 12/18-1/2, 1/15)
While examining magnets, children will learn about the different poles and complete related experiments to observe how magnets can both attract and repel. Children will learn how compasses work, and the role the Earth’s magnetic field/force has in their use.
ENROLLING NOW Session Three Liquids, Solids, Mixtures, and More! January 29-March 29th (no class on 2/19-2/29, 3/29)
Children will explore several substances and complete experiments by creating mixtures and observing reactions. These will include adding baking soda to vinegar, using a yeast mixture to blow up a balloon, and moving pepper on water with soap. We will also compare liquids to solids and much more!
Session Four Planting, Colors, Light, and More! April 2-June 6th (no class on 4/16-4/20, 5/28)
These programs are located at Adventures in Learning (313 Cedar St in Ashland) and are offeredto both pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children.Children not currently enrolled in our preschool program may be dropped off for our afternoon classes at 12:30 or arrive by bus after Kindergarten for lunch. After lunch, all children will explore classroom areas and complete program activities.Each day will also include outdoor play and interactions with our animals.Dismissal is at 2:30. Drop off for our morning classes is at 9am. Children will explore classroom areas, complete science activities, and have outdoor opportunities to explore and interact with our animals. Children will have a snack or lunch prior to pick up by parents or bus (staggered options are available for children attending afternoon preschool and kindergarten programs).
Registration forms should be completed online or requested by email firstname.lastname@example.org. A confirmation email will be sent with tuition information. Spaces will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Families will be notified by phone if a session is full, and be given the option of being placed on a wait list.

Backyard Adventures is a science/nature based program for young children 4-6 years of age.Each class (maximum of 10 students) includes hands on exploration in nature and related science experiments.Children will be encouraged to make observations, predictions, and ask questions.Our goal is to bring out the naturalist in your child by helping them to see the amazing world located in our own backyards!
